At a Sunday matinee on January 13, 2019 at The Adrienne Arsht Ballet & Opera House, FANS attended a ballet classic. Set to the ultra-romantic piano music of Chopin, Dances at a Gathering is a celebration of dance –pure and simple — in all its athleticism, grace and sheer joy: choreographer Jerome Robbins’ tribute to dancing and to dancers.
We then experienced Brahms’ Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel, the clever, whirling, high-octane collaboration between two choreographic giants – Robbins and Twyla Tharp – in a plotless movement extravaganza.
Miami City Ballet is the only company outside of the New York City Ballet to perform this genre-defying work.
Before the ballet, FANS enjoyed brunch and the lovely view at nearby Verde on the Terrace at the Perez Art Museum Miami.
This Cultural Camaraderie event was hosted by Elizabeth Newman and Merle Frank.
