Committees and Volunteering
FAN encourages any members who are interested to volunteer for a FAN Committee. It is through the FAN committees, which cover a broad range of skills and activities, that much of the work of the organization is accomplished.
Communications Committee
The Communications Committee produces the FAN newsletter. Published 3-4 times yearly, the newsletter is an important link to our members providing them with information on FAN meetings and activities and the grants awarded. This Committee is also responsible for press releases and other communications with the public.
Cultural Camaraderie
This committee plans and hosts events at which our members attend a performance or exhibit funded by FAN, preceded or followed by a lunch, dinner, reception or other social event. Cultural Camaraderie has become extremely popular with the FAN membership, and an effective means of recruiting new members.
Membership Committee
Recruiting and retaining members is essential to FAN’s ability to develop a community interest in the arts and a funding pool for grants. The Membership Committee focuses on activities to bring in new members and to provide information and activities for our current membership. Activities include communications and special events including the Member Only Events, in appreciation of our members, with behind the scene tours, trips to art collector’s homes and specific events for members only.
Membership Luncheon Programming
Quarterly luncheon meetings are held for FAN members at which current topics concerning the arts and culture are discussed by distinguished guest panelists. The Luncheon Programming Committee assists with the development and organization of the program, and with the luncheon arrangements. Luncheons are held in October, December, March and May. Guests and prospective members are welcomed at these meetings. Grantees, panelists and arts leaders mingle informally with members and guests.
Screening Committee
The task of the Screening Committee is to review grant applications and select the most compelling ones to present to the full membership for final vote. The Screening Committee is crucial to FAN’s mission to support the visual and performing arts in Miami-Dade County. Members of the committee, working together, have a unique opportunity to learn about the grant evaluation process and applicant arts organizations while performing an important service for the membership. Grant applications for 2011-2012 are due November 12th, 2010.
The Screening Committee will begin its work of reviewing these applications by attending a training session and initial team meeting in January 2011. The Screening process will conclude in March 2011. The annual Grantee Award luncheon is Tuesday, May 10th 2011.
