On Friday, November 17, FANs attended a private preview of the enjoyable and provocative exhibit, p e r Sway, at Locust Projects, with the artist Nancy Davidson, one day prior to the public opening reception.
p e r Sway. presented the artist’s first solo exhibition in Miami, populated with giant inflated structures, knots, legs and swaying figures, Davidson’s immersive installation explores ritual and theater and creates a space in which the place of privilege is taken over by parodies of power.
Davidson is a New York-based sculptor known for her outsized anthropomorphic inflatables. For forty years, her work has unapologetically addressed issues of power, sexuality and femininity through an embrace of the subversive potential of humor and the absurd. (Click here to read an essay about the artist’s work, where body image is imaginatively on display.)
FANs walked to Estefan Kitchen after the preview at Locust Projects and ordered lunch from an a la carte menu.
Thanks to hosts Amy Pollack and Sydney Carpel for a wonderful afternoon.
