Orchestra Miami and Magic City Opera performed two exciting masterpieces in a Centennial Celebration for legendary composer Leonard Bernstein on Sunday, January 6 at the Alan & Diane Lieberman Theater at Michael-Ann Russell JCC/ Sanford L. Ziff Campus.
Trouble in Tahiti, an opera in one act, is a candid portrait of the troubled marriage of a young couple. A clever and cutting libretto matched with a jazz-infused score, Tahiti delivers a candid and profound portrait of a couple longing for love and intimacy amidst the American dream.
Arias & Barcarolles, Bernstein’s last major piece, is a poignant rumination on marriage, life and the nature of love.
Both pieces were performed by critically-acclaimed American baritone Gabriel Preisser and mezzo-soprano Caitlyn McKechney under the direction of Michael Yawney and conducted by Orchestra Miami’s Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi.
FANs enjoyed dinner after the performance at P.F. Chang’s. Hosts were Joanne Levite and Jacquie Tuozzolo.
