The Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU will present Ruth Gruber: Photojournalist on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 10:15 am. The docent tour begins at 11:30 am.
First we will view the award-winning documentary “Ahead of Time: The Extraordinary Journey of Ruth Gruber.” Then we will view the exhibition celebrating the remarkable life, vision and heroic tenacity of 20th century pioneer and trailblazer, Ruth Gruber, 1922-2016. Her photographs spanned more than 50 years and four continents, from Gruber’s groundbreaking reportage of the Soviet Arctic in the 1930’s and iconic images of Jewish refugees on the ship Exodus in 1947 to her later photographs of Ethiopian Jews in the midst of civil war in the 1980’s. Cost is $6 (adults), $5 (seniors), free (museum members).
The museum is located at 301 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach. Parking is in front on the pavers and in the museum lot on the north side of the building. There is also a Municipal Parking Garage across the street at 404 Washington Avenue or street parking with meters. Following the tour, the group will meet for lunch at La Locanda, a charming Italian restaurant located at 419 Washington Avenue. We will order from the menu and there will be separate checks.
