In December, 2017 at the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU on Miami Beach, FANs enjoyed a Cultural Camaraderie program highlighting Ruth Gruber, Photojournalist.
First we viewed the award-winning documentary “Ahead of Time: The Extraordinary Journey of Ruth Gruber.” Then we enjoyed a docent-led tour of the exhibition celebrating the remarkable life, vision and heroic tenacity of 20th- century pioneer and trailblazer, Ruth Gruber, who lived from 1922-2016.
Her photographs spanned more than 50 years and four continents, from Gruber’s groundbreaking reportage of the Soviet Arctic in the 1930’s and iconic images of Jewish refugees on the ship Exodus in 1947, to her later photographs of Ethiopian Jews in the midst of civil war in the 1980’s.
A selection of Gruber’s vintage prints that have never been exhibited were presented along with contemporary prints made from her original negatives.
Following the tour, FANS enjoyed lunch at at La Locanda, a charming Italian restaurant located on Washington Avenue.
Hosts were Marcia Dunn and Suzanne Stolar.
