On December 16 at the Colony Theater, Lincoln Road, Miami Beach, Dance Now! Miami presented Doris Humphrey’s 1953 modern dance classic, “Ritmo Jondo.” Performed to the tantalizing Spanish rhythms of Catalan born composer, Carlos Surinach, the show featured swirling cascading motions for the female dancers and vibrating thrusting gestures and steps for the men.
“Ritmo Jondo” sets up a counterpoint of masculinity and femininity that has had significant impact on modern dance. Daniel Lewis, the beloved former Dean of the Dance Department of Miami’s New World School of the Arts, reconstructed this historic work for one of the region’s best contemporary companies.
Dinner for FANs before the show was at nearby Balans, on Lincoln Road.
Thanks to hosts Merle Frank and Lynn Kislak for a great FAN event.
