about volunteering
An Invitation to Join a FAN committee

FAN encourages any members who are interested to volunteer for a FAN Committee.  It is through the FAN committees, which cover a broad range of skills and activities,  that much of the work of the organization is accomplished.

Communications Committee
The Communications Committee produces the FAN newsletter.  Published 3-4 times yearly, the newsletter is  an important link to our members; providing them with information on FAN meetings and activities, and the grants awarded.  This Committee is also responsible for  press releases  and  other communications with the public.

Cultural Camaraderie
This committee plans and hosts events at which our members  attend a  performance or exhibit funded by FAN, preceded or followed by a dinner, reception or other social event.  Cultural Camaraderie has become extremely popular with the FAN membership, and an effective means of recruiting new members.

Membership Committee
Recruiting and retaining members is essential to FAN’s  ability to develop a community interest in the arts and funding pool for grants.  The Membership Committee focuses on activities to bring in new members and to provide in formation and activities for  our current membership.  These activities include communications and  special events.

Membership Luncheon Programming
Quarterly luncheon meetings are held for FAN members at which current topics concerning the arts and culture are discussed by distinguished guest panelists.  The Luncheon Programming Committee assists with the development and organization of the program, and  with the luncheon arrangements

The Screening Committee.
The task of the Screening Committee -  reviewing grant applications and selecting the most compelling ones to present to the full membership for final vote - is crucial to FAN’s mission to support the visual and performing arts in Miami-Dade County.   It is also interesting  and rewarding. Screening Committee members, working together, have a unique opportunity to learn about  the grant evaluation process and  applicant arts organizations while performing an important service for the membership.

Grant applications for 2007-2008 are due December 7th, 2007.  The Screening Committee will begin its work of reviewing these applications by attending a training session and initial team meeting on January 24, 2008.  The Screening process will conclude March 2008.
